Gulf Coast Response
While several people have played incredible roles in our successful seasons of “helping people
rise again” through this disaster response and recovery strategy, we must note the indispensible leadership of Rev. Samuel C. Tolbert, Jr. Among his several roles as pastor,
denominational leader, and community organizer, Pastor Tolbert has served as Lott Carey’s Disaster Response and Recovery Coordinator and has ensured that the implementation of the programs and services this report catalogues has been done with integrity and creativity.

The process began at our Annual Leadership Planning Meeting which was held in Amelia Island, FL on Wednesday, November 28, 2012. Under the coordination of Rev. Samuel C. Tolbert, collaboration began amongst the auxiliary leaders. Rev. Tolbert introduced the Appreciative Inquiry Method and proceeded to conduct several meetings around this concept.

Acquisition & Renovations of Fountain Pines Baptist Camp
Acquisition & Renovations of Fountain Pines Baptist Camp, Colfax, LA, purchased as a Vision of State President, Louisiana Home & Foreign Missions Baptist State Convention, Rev. Samuel C. Tolbert, Jr., MDiv., President.

Tavis Smiley began his introduction in the book titled The Covenant by citing a quotation from A. Phillip Randolph, a great African American labor leader – “At the banquet table of life there are no reserved souls. You get what you can take
and keep what you can hold. If you can’t take anything, you won’t get anything. And if you can’t hold anything, you won’t keep anything. And you can’t take anything without organization.”
Without organization African American people will never be able to take, keep or hold onto anything much less the hard-fought gains we have struggled to achieve. To save our African American males we have to organize, mobilize and make it
happen.
